GREAT SPACE

GORGEOUS LOCATION

WELCOME HOME

Our pet-friendly community includes a growing group of weekenders, work-at-home professionals and full time residents embracing the ease and friendliness of the desert lifestyle.

We are a vibrant community with just 82 one and two-story villas and townhomes. Each home has an attached single or double garage and two private patios or decks with fabulous mountain views, and all floor plans feature high ceilings, open floor plans and abundant storage.

There are 2- and 3-bedroom models ranging from just under 1700 sq/ft to over 2200 sq/ft. within our gated community. Most have been extensively upgraded to reflect the owner’s personal style, though the few remaining “original” models are a coveted blank canvas for renovators.

A contemporary desert landscaped exterior gives way to a grassy interior common with an abundance of citrus trees, two heated pools, two spas and two lighted tennis courts. A gym is attached to the newly renovated post and beam style community hub that offers flex space for gatherings and remote work - featuring internet, clerestory windows and a fireplace while staying true to the architects original 70's vision.

A HOME WHERE YOU

CAN MAKE IT YOURS

A strong varied color palette reflects the seasonal variations in the adjacent mountains creating a sense of individual homes in a desert village setting. Homeowners have embraced the variety by personalizing their entranceways, landscaping and outdoor living spaces to their taste.

The property is professionally managed, and with an active Board of Directors is committed to community improvement. HOA dues include impeccably maintained landscaping, high speed internet and premium cable. The community has invested over $700,000 in upgrades since 2015. Strong reserve funds are a priority and land leases have been renegotiated to 2068.

Canyon West was conceived in the late '70s as a gated vacation community by builders Roy and Bob Fey who pioneered condo developments in Palm Springs with projects such as Palmer and Krisel designed Canyon Vista Estates. They brought Canyon West to market in 1979 as an upscale planned unit development. Designed to attract east-coasters looking for a seasonal retreat, some of the desired features included sunshine ceilings in the kitchens, wet bars, fireplaces and cedar closets.

THE HISTORY OF

CANYON WEST ESTATES

Fey commissioned architect Hugh M Kaptur to design the project. Kaptur apprenticed with Donald Wexler and his early work reflects a classic linear modernist form, but by the 1970s, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West outside Scottsdale, he had evolved his signature Desert Organic style. Kaptur’s work is celebrated for its bold forms, thick walls, deeply inset windows and wide overhangs, best exemplified by Kaptur Plaza on Taquitz, Fire Station #4 on LaVerne and the Musicland Hotel. At Canyon West Estates Kaptur married these bold forms in homage to the local Spanish Revival vernacular by using organic rough plaster and terra cotta roofs to create a uniquely Palm Springs style.
